Maialen Lujanbio champion for the third time
Round but sharp
  • On December 18, 13,300 Bertsolaris fans turned Nafarroa Arena into an Basque resonance box. Besides playing the final for the first time in Navarre, the composition of the finalists has made historic, as for the first time they have sung three women, and after 55 years a Navarro has passed to the end (or two according to the way of understanding citizenship, because Colina lives in Pamplona in the last years). Maialen Lujanbio was waiting there and broke the statistic that whoever goes live to the tournament won't become a champion, getting the third. He dreamed of Arzallus, and then the whole day program broke out with content and linguistic acrobatics.

Maialen Lujanbio, Amets Arzallus, Aitor Mendiluze, Subai Colina, Alaia Martin, Beñat Gaztelumendi, Nerea Ibarzabal and Joanes Illarregi. In this order he has set the scoring tables on the story page, but each audience will remember more intensely, according to their tastes, one or the other of these bertsolaris when they start thinking about the historical end of 2022. Even before the two names were given, as many opinions as the ear could be heard; the name of
Lujanbio was the most repeated, but from there the listener had the feeling that everything was open. The following day, observing the table of final scores, Arzallus only obtained two and a half points of advantage in Mendiluze's third position.

Another conclusion that can be drawn from the points is that the competition is played more on its own. In fact, all bertsolaris, except one, have earned their highest solo score. Guess who in the small tenth got more points than in the individual? Beñat Gaztelumendi. If the stereotypes of each bertsolari have allowed you to think otherwise, it may be time to shake the stereotypes.

Current issues

Some say that the Bertsolaris are “the voice of the community”, and that the main championship is also a question of legitimacy or recognition, who designates the community of Bertsolaris fans as a symbolic representative. To me the bertsolaris give me the belly of the village, and the bertsos session seems to me a familiar constellation in which the themes, the situations, the attitudes, the contradictions, the thoughts, the feelings -- that we live in the everyday life of all. That whoever sang a bertsolari did not tell you anything? Quiet, in the public there will be a lot of people who have felt perfectly identified with these verses and who have greatly valued. Has this other bertsolari's speech seemed obtuse to those experts? Perhaps I find it the most demanding, because whoever is in that situation where bertsolari has settled knows what feels and thinks best in those cases -- we listen to the sessions looking at the work of the bertsolaris, and we commend the bertsolaris as if we are talking about bertsolaris, but doesn't it tell us more about how we lose every verse? Biribil explained Nerea Ibarzabal the value of being seven hours seated listening bertsos:

“This burned world
often sells us that when smoke is violent,
haste and
money exchange is
a
revolutionary action.”

Four (five in the case of the current championship) are the themes that accumulate in society in the interannual dominant family constellation, the ideas and speeches that have strength, the legitimacy of the ways of speaking at every moment in our community, the characteristics of the charismatic before the public age… Among the problems stand out the diversity of gender and sex, the situation of the Basque country, migration, social inequalities and male violence. These are the themes that Maialen Lujanbio addressed in her two individual themes, which are the ones that have obtained the highest score among all the lines of the program: when she sang of the skin of the immigrant woman cleaning foreign houses, she obtained 214.5 points and solo sang to the general crisis sowing many of these themes, with 209.5 points. The third most scored verse was that of Alaia Martín, who obtained 207.5 points when he described the stage and the fourth most scored was that of Amets Arzallus, who achieved 203 points in his father's recovery work of his transsexual daughter.
