The Basque university system, public?
In recent months there has been a deep and interesting debate in Basque society about the CAPV Education Act, in which it has been shown that among the challenges of education is the fight against segregation by origin and socio-economic level.
Although the debate has taken place in non-university education, I see a great similarity between the Basque educational service that is included in the draft law and the Basque university system. In fact, within this definition the public UPV/EHU are equated with two private universities “non-profit”, questioning the dual system only when it has been intended to implement centers driven by companies, placing them outside the Basque system and considering them elitist.
Naming often masks reality and although it is within the system, the social level limits the learning possibilities of many people (the public university does not guarantee it either). Therefore, the only possibility to guarantee the right to education from birth to higher education is to invest in the public to make it universal.
