Ogro next to the field
The coach was giving orders from side to side of the camp. One player in the field called the inside and changed it to another. When the boy sat in the chair, the man turned around, and from the power position that gives him the role, age, experience and gender, he began to rebuke the player who leaned his head. Hearing the cries of the fearsome ogre from the grade and seeing these aggressive body gestures, he hugged me to the boy and proposed for a while to hide with him to protect me from the situation of violence that somehow was unbearable. Meanwhile, the pace of the party remained intact, each of the protagonists of the field, and the screams, applause and usual comments on the stands. I mean, for the people who were there, the situation was normal. Probably also for him.
The degree of normalization of violence in sport and the repeated justification of the authoritarian and aggressive style of training is impressive.
It is terrible to what extent violence in sports has normalized, and how an authoritarian and aggressive style of training that exalts hegemonic masculinity, accepts homophobia, penosity and humiliation is repeatedly justified, and provokes panic. And this style of training is so widespread that training is recognised by almost all the players involved in the old sport, including players, that it would be necessary to motivate them. Those who learn something about pedagogy know that fear is a great enemy of the learning process, and that a single situation of violence generated by a coach can be enough to cause lifelong pain, learn a sport and make friends to the boys and girls who came happy to the club.
I still find it incomprehensible to see these situations and consider the environments as normal; incomprehensible that people involved in child education treat children as such; incomprehensible that the contents are not included to promote good treatment in the training of trainers; and incomprehensible that a club or federation should recognize an educational person who does not treat children well.
Despite the fact that the new law on the protection of children and adolescents from violence places the emphasis on this issue and sets out a series of obligations in the field of sport in relation to good treatment, it is time for sports agents to act consciously to care for and protect young hearts from sport. More than sports results, which will bring well-being and happiness.
