The fantasy of being honest

On the occasion of a documentary about Eñaut Elorrieta, I was invited to Tabakalera two or three weeks ago. I liked the invitation to the colloquial premiere, but when I approached the film I began to find many people, there Paul e Itziar, there Maiz, there Eneko, Olatz e Idoia, there Look, there Aretika and Amets... Why have so many people come?

In addition to the documentary, Eñaut organized the hearing of his last album with his closest friends: “Uxue and the two at the wedding, or in the months, there would be similar people,” says Eñaut. Well, friends of the wedding, and I, we sat there, sitting in front of the black screen that put only the title of the songs, listening to the new play Fancy. And, listen, thank you. Taking some of the scare I had in the early songs, I realized how well a movie theater is to listen to music. Without distractions, the frequencies of Dolby Surround, or whatever technology, rise and fall from the eardrum to the heart of the brain.

Eñaut has been singing for two years with Aitor Etxebarria, one of them has sent the draft and the other has moved the structure. Etxebarria has found shortcuts to the usual direction of pop songs. That is, replacing bass and electric guitar and batteries with minimalism and cinematic touch with strings and piano. The txastone is heard in one song, for example, within one.

All this space favors the disc and its paused hearing. Walk on the rope prepared by Xabi Zeberio thanks to nice repairs. But one by one, you wouldn't see a new direction. And that is, although he has used the name Fancy to do what he has never dared to do, this work is more Ephemeral than ever, as Etxebarria says.

The essence of the work is kept by the songs Esna and Fantasia, I would say, and Euri Herria connects with the previous works in the same way. The Bidasoa is the one that moves the furthest away, and the album has the stamp of legitimacy, like a Lekeitio, to remember that the present Gernika is the Bidasoa and the cruel policy of borders.

The fact that the pop star of our adolescence has been so fragile and vulnerable above all the world shows that behind the image there is something. To thank the writer and partner Uxue Alberdi, who is wet with tears, with shame, there, along with her 200 friends, has some legitimacy. I think that's Fantasy: the path of an artist who lives with passion to sing with authenticity and honesty.
