I found the first article I wrote for this magazine (Garai modernoak, 2004) and I was surprised by the current situation. After eighteen years, wind mills began to grow everywhere (they continued to grow and are now one of the main sources of energy in Navarre), urban orchards (removed some of the banks of the Arga River, but now have created others in the vicinity of the Arga and elsewhere), buildings that are now insatiable landings (now also advancing).

I dare not say how far the environmental movement had spread two decades ago – I am convinced that by then it was already known in Euskal Herria, but it was still an alternative trend, the issue of hippies still – but I am sure that environmental habits and practices were not in fashion as they are now, which still did not dominate. In recent years many people have gone from saying “these ecologists” to eating “organic” foods.

I do not want to be ironic, I take these issues seriously, and I am glad that more and more people are becoming aware of the need for ecology. More and more people feel ekolo.

On the other hand, I am aware that the expansion of environmental practices is creating more and more contradictions and complexity. For example, the introduction of organic food into large production, distribution and trade networks shows dark and uncertain differences. And these giant windmills produce renewable energy, but they also have a negative impact on the landscape, fauna and ecosystems in general (ask, if not, ecologists who actively fight against the installation of mills at sea in Girona). What can be said about waste (although discrimination increases, there is no good way of eliminating rejection, and goods, both ecologically and conventional, often bring excessive packaging) or about means of transport (the electric car is the real solution? ).

However, it is now the big companies and institutions “ekoloenak”, which as they always lead (and in this case I do want to take advantage of irony). Those who have created serious ecological problems, who for years and years have been listened to and blind to environmentalists, and even aggressive, will always lead us, with money, to the paradox of ecology. Mean bad, if you do it correctly (but I don't trust it).
