The life and practice of history to receive it are not straight lines. It may take a long time to understand what we are living. Today, most children around us have not known a world without a screen. At the same time, although we all have screens in one place, the reality of each is very different, as they can be screen users without reading or writing. Today, the idea of the screen is far from the idea of the TV: the screen is a smart paper, the smart mud, the smart instrument.
Smart tools with the screen as an interface are intended to facilitate their use. They're designed to reduce our work, and humans are quickly adapting to this new reality. But people with very different needs have always lived in the same space of time: lonely, with little digital capacity, with physical and cognitive limitations... In these cases, the new body forms of devices without screens have begun to be introduced into homes, such as virtual assistants in the form of speakers. Where sound (voice) is the main way of order entry and task output can be given in very different ways: light ignition, sound, temperature control... In the essay Weneedtotalk.ai, researchers Julia Schneider and Lena Kadriye reflect on these topics in comic format. In the case of the elderly, one thing that strikes me is that, as human beings, it seems that one objective is to live as autonomously as possible in old age, and in that artificial intelligence can help, for many, through domotized homes and virtual helpers that materialize in different objects. But I have the feeling that, as in so many things we do today, if these devices deploy in the homes of the elderly, instead of focusing on our top attendances, we'll put them in the virtual aides of the elderly, that the way to care about them is to keep the device going. We'll move a little further away.
