The supports of culture
- With the phrase “economy is life” I understood that the relationships between economy and power can be very diverse. It is an economic exchange, a balance of exchange that must preserve planet Earth and all the creatures that inhabit it.
Technologies are effective mechanisms for historically influencing the economy and power relations. They can restructure the balances. Literature, living arts, music, audio-visual, video games -- there are many fields of creation, and creators have worked different ways to make their work sustainable. Thus, economic activities have been generated around their work.
Digitalization is about 50 years old and at first the potential influence on business models was not detected. At first we only understood the benefits of digital transformation in content quality. However, creative devices found another benefit, the possibility that digitization would allow a large number of contents. With this idea, he began to question the model “a support, a creative work, a person”. The change was not there. The first computer network, Arpanet, was launched in 69 and allowed digital content sharing. We got to know the network we know today in the '90s, and it enabled us to connect everybody. By the year 2000, the idea of the cloud began to develop, creating the possibility of connecting your computer to the centralized computers that offer this service rather than as a deposit. Changes in network shape and control. With this, the platforms began to develop, with the possibility of offering a lot of content in a single place for many people. And the model of “a support, all the creations, the world” has been opened.
The truth is that, despite its convenience for consumption, the power relations that this model has generated leave little space for the economic model that seeks to sustain the life of its creators. There we are all trapped, and the creators have no choice but to be there. It is still a small model of life, only about twenty years. We have to see many changes.
