Amour eta toujours | Ruper Ordorika | Elkar, 2021

The time to hear a record can mark it. You're not the same at every moment, like the river you bathe in, and every song has its moment.

With Amour and Ruper Ordorika's toujours, something like this has happened to me. A winter day when a warm sun came in the room, I had a special hearing that took me indoors.

Ordorika is often known to have visited Cuba on the visit of his friend and collaborator Joseba Sarrionandia. Amour and toujors (Elkar, 2021) are a record of Cuban tastes and rhythms that believed it owed something to their experience and melodies.

Zero sugars can be compared to the disc. A small album of nice songs, a curiosity, almost a whim. Not at all. Rather than imitating Cuban Son, Ordorika gets wet on him and his songs come cooler than ever, without leaving the tone, with the trumpet friend and a less common electric guitar. It has taken into account the gangs of small peoples, and in that it is particularly good this work, with a few long ago, excluding everything that is left.

Put a shirt with flowers to Ruper's songs, a straw hat and a cold drink in your hands. The sad and melancholy character of the singers has never had anything to do with the oñatiarra. Ruper's songs favor life, filled with humor, seeking beauty among her friends. The wind is Lent, or the smell of Bugainbil: “If in the world you want to bring happiness to the holy ron.”

“The rhymes of Amour and Toujours in the trash,” this work is not left in the cliché or in the touristic point of view. He has made a human photograph of Cuba, ultimately, that part of the moments of all humanity: “People in line, no matter what tomorrow.”

Sunset, company, let the time pass. Ruper dreams of making music to fall in love, perhaps in his most delicious work: “As we dream here, the world is at rest. How good it is to feel life out of time.” Santa Ana looks like the most beautiful place in the world.
