Last week the Librezale Group on Education, in the framework of the report Bases for the transformation of Basque education, shared a series of comments related to digitisation. Many of the groups expressed their interest in the general “music” of the report in their telegram group. But, starting to read in detail, they said that the report needs to be more specific and they have shared a truly beautiful contribution on the group’s web. I'm pulling some ideas out of there, hoping that as I write them down, I will internalize them and understand them better. For example, it's very interesting that they've differentiated digital empowerment from digital competence. They relate digital competence to the concept of user and see that empowerment internalizes the idea of being an agent. What I understand is that, depending on the digitalization we drive in education, we will give less or more tools to influence reality, both to students and teachers. Another concern they have shown is that education aims to boost the growth of technology, as if digital technology were in fact beneficial. In this sense, we must avoid further digitalisation being associated with more benefits, since it is not more digitalisation, but better digitalisation.
And here comes the core of the question: How to overcome inertia, how to work better digitization for education?
Answering this question is one of the great challenges of education. And I think the answer is going to relate to other elements that are in the report itself: local, sovereign, linked to nature, to the community ... In short, because the digitalization of education cannot have an isolated layer, because a better digitalization of education will be a sign of transformation of the educational model itself.
