Creating the need for data
  • The other day, writer Belen Gopegui participated in a round table in which she shared a very interesting concept. It says that the biosphere, the system linked to life, processes a lot of data and compares it to the dynamics of data that humans have created in recent years.

Gopegui said that today, instead of understanding the data that big platforms collect as nature-related data, we should understand them as fabricated data. That is, where you bought (place, shop...) is not a useful data for nature, because without that information nature can continue to function, but not the economy that has been created about it. The need for data emerges in human society.

I graduated in business administration and management, and in college, we were taught that meeting needs was a way to get markets and develop businesses. As these were markets that were then very satisfied, the idea came of creating new needs, and with that came the need for innovation. Innovation implied a social change that would allow the new needs to be incorporated.

Regarding the need for data, we are seeing that our societies are taking shape. Where can more data manufacturing needs be created? What transformations will they bring to our society? What should we do to have a voice/agency instead of adapting to it?
