The Etruri, among others, were excellent abrasives and innovative shipbuilders that managed to become one of the major marine powers of the Western Mediterranean. But where did that superiority come from than those considered to be heirs to the Hellenic civilization and ancestors of Rome? What is the origin of the Etruscans?
To clarify the mystery and close the debate, experts from the University of Tübingen, in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute and the University of Florence, gathered 86 Etruscan skeletons to study DNA. And they have recently come to the conclusion that in the most recent footprints, in the Roman era, genetic influence both in the east and in the north is evident, but in the individuals of the age of exaltation of the Etruscans they have not found such confusion. I mean, the Etruscans had the same characteristics as the Italian neighbors, and they didn't come in any way. Eastern influences are notable in them for their relationship with the Hellenic countries and not for their origin.
Theories in favor of the autochthonous origin of the Etruri emerged long ago. a.C. In the first century, Halikaire's Dionysus found no reason to think otherwise, and in the last two centuries, more and more archaeologists and historians have opted for this choice contrasted by DNA. But so far another hypothesis has prevailed: the Etruscans were invaders, they came through the east a. C. In the 8th century, from Asia Minor, Aegean or near Lidia. Supporters of orientalist theory claim that religion and culture had supposedly oriental traits, and that they had a peculiar and very advanced civilization with respect to others. This theory is also much older than the other, the father of historiography, Herodotus himself a. C. It was founded in the 5th century.
In the end, behind the invading origin of the Etruscans lies a deep-seated mentality that morally justifies invasions, conquests, imperialism: the dominant countries feel the need to extend their influence to enlarge their political, cultural and religious values, favouring peoples dominated by peace, security and prosperity. Many DNA results will be needed to recognize that the relationships and interactions between civilizations and peoples also occurred among equals.
