In recent days I have noticed a growth of people who explain their health problems to me – it is not a complaint, on the contrary I like to be useful. Maybe it's because I've also explained my health problems -- a mild, temporary, blissful problem -- in an autobiographical book -- and so far a propaganda space of these columns. For example, those of your eyes: a friend told me, I'm sorry, that you're going to have cataracts. And, 2x1, they're also going to fix your nearsightedness. Because I'm short-sighted -- not always, and I haven't had to live a traumatic childhood adolescence, at least for wearing glasses -- I've had surgery at some point. I have never done so, because I am convinced that I am more attractive with glasses or less ugly.
But my friend's recognition has left me worried, because he's too young to suffer from such a disease. And I've remembered that that's exactly what the eye doctor said to me when, being too young, he diagnosed me with pigment dispersion. Pigment dispersion, really beautiful name, if you don't think it can end up in glaucoma. And glaucoma in blindness. Add flying flies to this, little black spots crossing the visual field. C.V. As I read Sebald, I learned what they were. They started seeing me from one day to the next. All in all, the eye doctor told me that at the age of forty years I could be blind. We'll see.
And I don't believe in fate, in heaven. But it's true that I've always been panicking the blind, long before eye problems begin. Because I've been an observer, surely -- not a voyeur, of course. And because the eyes are very important in the literature. In the Bible itself they appear about a thousand times. But above all, and despite the existence of the audio books, because the radio photovoltaic, the braille itself, I never want to give up reading if it is one of the most beloved pleasures, if it is not the most beloved.
