Let it be the first step

In the Sei Argazki program, Joseba Arrangi explained to Pedro Mari Goikoetxea that, shortly after the creation of the Euskaltegis of HABE, it had been left to the municipalities: “We got it right. The municipal Euskaltegis have been important to recover things, and to remove the monopoly of the HB and the AEK…”. Certainly, in the spirit contrary to that famous letter sent by Brother Ricardo to Euskaltzaindia.

Euskaltegis have always been paying for the consequences of these conflicts, and, of course, the process of Euskaldunization and Euskaldunization of the Basque Country. The environment of those times affected the economy of the Euskaltegis, but also the academic activity, as the Euskaldunization was left hanging from the individuals, with the implementation of the Linguistic Profiles for the labor world, in the belief that its use would come from there. Euskaltegis were largely losing their status as motors of the revitalization process n.Desapareciendo of the streets. The “panorama” of the current Euskaltegis is a direct consequence of the policies of the time.

"The Basque Government has reached an agreement with 'Euskaltegis of popular initiative' to lift several workers out of precariousness. Even late, welcome."

But it seems that things are changing. In April 2021, the Basque Government reached an agreement with the “Euskaltegis of popular initiative” to remove several workers from precariousness. Even late, welcome. The working conditions of some schools are truly disastrous. It can therefore be said that at the end of the tunnel there is light, and this time it seems that it is not the train that comes upside down.

I have heard from some of the signatories that this is only a beginning, that we have great challenges. And I agree. Unlike what happens in regulated education, in ours the public and private networks are not well defined. The truth is that there is no public network. Depending on the municipalities, there is no uniformity in working conditions, resources, work-bags… The last job offer (except for some retirement) was made in the 1990s. Among others, chaos is also great. Unlike education, there are, for example, private Euskaltegis with distributions of benefits. I do not know very well how the benefits and subsidies will be linked. And let us not forget that there is Euskaltegis beyond the CAV.

And HABE? What should HABE's role be? What links would it need with Education, with the Basque Country, with the plans, with the institutions of Navarra and Iparralde...

We face attractive challenges such as gratuity, orality, use, adjustment of the evaluation system, the integration of Euskaltegis in planning, the training of teachers of the future, the orientation of the university towards us… But for the revitalization process to begin, patches are not enough, we have to adapt the old motor from top to bottom.
