Last week's column didn't end at ease: every time I write something about Euskera, then I feel uncomfortable. Because I believe that the Basques are constantly talking, and even complaining about the Basque. The truth is, it's also bored me. All right, it's a minority language, it's a minority language, it's a lying language, it needs to be toned, it needs to be protected, it needs to be done whatever you want, but how good can it bring it to fill up all day? One day I have come to my hand a booklet, Vascentzia -aquitano, signed by Joakin Gorrotxategi, published by the University of Zaragoza, in which the past of the current Basque country is analyzed and, in addition to the indigenous language of the Basques, the Aquitan to which reference is made, hence its composite title. And between the 1st and 3rd centuries, we are told that Aquitaine is an old form of Euskera that was spoken not only in the north of the Pyrenees, but also in some places in the south. Concho. Why don't we play to change the name to the language: why don't we call ours the Aquitan of vasconia, or directly, to simplify it, to despise even the excess weight of the base, the Aquitan. Names, in short, are nothing more than conventions, but change can lead to changes in being. Think about how much weight we would have been relieved of, instead of Euskera – it is done, it has disappeared, we do not have to suffer any more – if from now on we start to call this language in which we speak. This would also connect us with the continent, also those of us who are peninsular. They'd make fashion names like Anderexo, Sesenko ... And finally, we would discard the agonistic burden of the long years: we would suddenly have a language that was used, that was magistrated, that was translated. A normal language.
