Those who drink beer sleep immediately, those who sleep deeply, cannot sin, those who do not sin, the sky is safe! So we drink fast!”
It's the roughly playful translation of a phrase from a 17th-century logic book. But I would not like to apologize for the cup, and today I would like to bring to these lines a summary or a healthier variant of the phrase, exclaiming: “He who sleeps cannot sin; he who does not sin, be sure to heaven! So, we lasted a long time!”
Death equals us in the ultimate dream, as this popular wisdom teaches us to stimulate the hope of the poor, but before even the provisional dream equals us a bit. Sleep is undoubtedly powerful and disturbing if one considers: A “morphine snake,” according to Unai Iturriaga. In our own language we note the power we attribute to it: we “sleep”, yes, but also “sleep invades us”. We are all vulnerable to the tender claws of sleep, and yet this period of vulnerability gives us some security: it keeps us alive. After all, human beings can spend more time without eating than without sleeping: eleven days, the official record. Not in vain, one of the most well-known forms of torture is the inability to sleep prisoners.
Those who have never been hungry (we are not many in the world) and those who have not been hungry (perhaps a little more) long ago, would find a system that would bring us hunger unacceptable; we would rise (I want to think) against those responsible. However, we all live in a situation of dreaming that we accept calmly, saying “there is one who is”, as if the black of our eyes were chance, chance, a couple of ineluctable moons that a demon god has revealed to us in negative in our face. We're a handful of zombies, cursed caffeine, and the body drags us back and forth, like dysfunctional androids with semi-spent battery -- but it's normal. In the program of a single political party you will not find the epidemic of lack of sleep as a preferred solution. Which are insane working conditions (shift work days, stress…), which are asphyxiating care tasks (how many times is sleep interrupted to the caregiver? ), which is light and noise pollution…: in the end, what is not a relatively easy dream has enough work and is resting properly, and, if it were not enough, the media remind us from time to time, in that effort to personalize the culpas, according to the University of Massachusetts, or lack of sleep reduces life expectancy and increases the risk of illness. Another form of anguish that helps enormously to sleep peacefully.
As far as I know, sleep is not a human right in itself. Last summer, however, the United Kingdom launched a striking campaign for the government to accept sleep as a right (#righttosleep), arguing that in this country there is a “low quality sleep” of twenty-two million inhabitants, which has harmful consequences for society. “Sleep is not a privilege,” the manifesto of this movement firmly states. But what is the world, the engine of the claim is not a group of committed (and tired) citizens, but an online mattress store. The same system that wants us to sleep will surely save us from this sleepwalking.

I received your e-mail in personal mail on the strike portals. At first, like many others, I thought it was to let you know what options we have in the face of the strike. But no, the e-mail received was a political and communicative movement against the strike.

This weekend I've been thinking about the word 'aesthetic' in relation to a phrase said by a friend: “This work is aesthetic.” I have studied the etymology of the word aesthetic, it seems that its meaning was originally perceived through the senses, and it was later associated... [+]

The other day in Bilbao, I met a friend at the Bira bar. We were very happy at the Tar and I said: “Of course, since you’re Guipúzcoa, hahahaha.” And he insisted that he was not Guipuzcoan. Without me understanding it, I kept saying, “Ah! Is it not? You were born in New... [+]

I just saw a series from another sad detective. All the plots take place on a remote island in Scotland. You know how these fictions work: many dead, ordinary people but not so many, and the dark green landscape. This time it reminded me of a trip I made to the Scottish... [+]

Life surrounds everything, it is limited and fragile. To live good lives, it seems to me that the body knows what to do, while the mind, although it knows (when it is well informed), often sees the body deliberately silence. In this silence the mind opens itself to relations... [+]
