While the media presents us to Hong Kong’s violent neo-colonialist protesters as white pigeons in favour of democracy and freedom, we are told that the police are ruthless, although the security forces have not caused deaths and the government has not declared a state of emergency. On the other hand, a state of emergency was decreed in France on 13 November 2015 and in 2017 the anti-terrorist law was passed which de facto perpetuated this situation. Seeing the military in the streets has become normal, the excuse may be the fight against terrorism or the repression of the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets are, of course, violent to the media and the French repressive forces are white pigeons, even though their actions have caused murder.

The same is happening in Latin America, if the government has the support of the voters and the country has taken important steps in human development, the media and the alleged non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will soon appear to denounce authoritarianism. Of course, only Social Democratic measures are admissible in the West, as social peace in the northern hemisphere works if the financial oligarchy and the great bourgeois compensate for the redistribution at home with the stolen in third world countries. Therefore, for the West, the protesters of the Nicaraguan or Venezuelan opposition, despite the kidnapping of public buildings and the death of people, are in favor of democratic freedoms ticas.Es normal that politicians of the first world meet with the protesters or grease well economically, but be calm, there the media will not see any kind of external intervention: “What will then be the other $52 million that the United States has given to Juan Guaidó?”

On the other hand, if a country is at the service of the West, its rulers can be reassured to make political killings invisible, as in Colombia and Honduras. The hegemonic media have not criticized the weak or deferred coups of state that have been produced by the judicial war (lawfare) in Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina or Ecuador. But neither is the harsh coup d'état in Honduras and the authoritarian regime that has subsequently been imposed.

Double standards can also be practised with an informative blackout. However, the poorest countries in America suffer violent neoliberal and neocolonial policies along with the terrible consequences of climate change, have looted the state and people have been happy, violent mobilizations have spread throughout the country, but most media and NGOs do not idealize or support mobilizations, but silence them.

Ecuador’s protests have had more impact, but the treatment of course has nothing to do with those of Venezuela or Nicaragua. The media does not demonize Lenin Moreno, even though there are many reasons to betray everyone for his cases of corruption, for the endless list of lies or because he came to power by the hand of Rafael Correa and the popular revolution. Moreno has drawn from Ecuador alba (Bolivarian Alliance for Latin America), from UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) and from OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries), has been indebted to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and has begun to implement neoliberal tax measures by cutting public freedoms and cutting back on human rights for 60 days. The IMF has already applauded.
