The Euskadi Symphony Orchestra (OSE) has brought us a special gift in its latest compost concert. I would say a double gift, on the one hand, because it has offered us a very nice work, and on the other, because we have heard a profound and felt interpretation.
No doubt, in number 9 of Gusav Mahler. Symphony is one of the most beautiful works of the composer’s entire production. In this work of four movements we find all kinds of environments and feelings and at all times we find music that reaches the inside. You have to keep in mind that it was Mahler's last symphony. The Austrian composer died in 1911 at the age of 50. It's a powerful, representative, living job. It's very curious, but when a slightly music lover listens, he doesn't know whether he likes it or not, but he does say that this music has gotten him to the bottom, that in a way he has moved his interiors. Do the test.
Mahler wrote this symphony when he was sick, but it's not a dark or nostalgic job. As the composer Alban Berg pointed out, “it is the most glorious symphony Mahler has ever written. It implies that he loved the earth and nature a lot, that he wants to live in peace, that he wants to enjoy fully, even the interior, until death, that reaches all, sooner or later, death.”
The SBI, under the leadership of Robert Treviño, was able to convey its feelings. The director made an expressive reading in which marked rhythms, expressive silences and rope became very important. The mastery of textures and phrasing, with enormous superiority, was at all times the main characteristic of the interpretation. Wonderful pianissimis, delightful mood swings, a pinch of the cleanliness of dissonances… Everything was ready, no doubt.
The magical moment came to the end. Director Robert Treviño offered a mystical view of the delightful Adagio of the Symphony. Its sound extended to infinity. They accurately offered that magic-religious environment. We were all there in stone. In the theater of Vitoria-Gasteiz it is difficult to get big vests, but the listeners fell in love.
