Rewriting the history of life
  • In the Qingjiang Field in China in 2007, fossils were found from 518 million years ago. Now, the result of the work done in the last 12 years has just been published in the journal Science.

In total, fossils of 101 species have been found, of which more than half were unknown to date, including Daihua sanqiong, probably prior to jellyfish, ktenoophores or sponges, which can be seen in the photo.

If the hypothesis is confirmed, the knetophores, also called comb jellyfish, would be the predecessors of the sponges and thus the oldest animal forms. Therefore, these fossils of the Cambrian Age can cause the change of the oldest branches of the tree of life.
