Hasier Larretxea's poetry I don't know if it's lyrical or philosophical. I don't know if he writes in the cold, or his adorned voice that is guided by the warmth of feelings. The dreams of some are the hardened fields of others (Pamiela, 2018), which does not need truth, memory, assiduous: “The shame of the absence of those who threw themselves in the horns/took root beyond the crossing.”
It's irrational. It's calculated. Larretxea (Arraioz, 1982) lives in contradiction. It is demanding with the word, with the limits of surrealism. Poemario is a store of sensations, an almost physical place enriched with aliterations and antithesis and double senses, where the ghosts of baztandarra, death and forgetfulness are poured out. “Each lost option opens/ a deeper hole/ on the memory cliff,/ on the horizon view.”
The Baztan and Madrid and, inevitably, this ever-smaller world is mixed with the unlimited fields of Larretxea's soul. Because if you're looking for easy and effectual poetry, this isn't a book for you. Sometimes it may be lacking in precision, it has some dubious structures and some words to choose better, but the magnetism of the texts is undeniable, that sweet sadness that crosses the book as an inner current: “What to embrace if there is no shooter// Forgetfulness has been extinguished in the last breath tunnel./ We can only see ourselves in the dark./ Wandering Shadow Dance in Reverse Mask./ In the palm of candlelight// We only see the profiles/ a rusty coin thrown by reality.”
The reference to Larretxea and timeless reflections without spins become a kind of music, pure of repetition, which is not a litany, by which it is understood literally. This allows the poems of a long breath to stay smoothly, to jump independently from one idea to another. This makes the dreams of some fields watered by others interesting and enjoyable. I didn't say it so exciting, so exciting. But this book is daring and shows a commitment to poetry. If poetry is to tell the words what they have not said so far – changing order, sublimating meaning – this is poetry.
