Yellow jackets and pensioners
- The most pessimistic people think that demonstrations, strikes and the mobilisation of workers are of no use at all, and that is why they are not on the streets. But once again, reality has contradicted them and they should not sit idly by while others protest.
The mobilizations of the yellow kids in Iparralde and in the French state have mobilised the president of France, Emmanuel Macron. Last week, the President of the Generalitat, called a "national debate". Why the debate? Because the government does not have solutions and capacities to meet the demands of the yellow vests.
It has not been enough to abolish the tax on hydrocarbons, nor to take measures to restore people’s purchasing power, despite the initial mobilisations linked to it. Social cholera has continued and last week more than 100,000 yellow vests have been thrown out. Macron says he wants to turn that anger into a “solution”, and for that he has opened the debate: taxation and public spending, public services, ecological transition, democracy and citizenship... With this movement he can give a “food” answer to deactivate the protests, but he is wrong. The organization of the yellow jackets is diverse and still angry, not least because the tax on fortunes has not been reinstated.
Basque pensioners, Huerta de Peralta strikers, teachers of concerted schools, La Naval workers and all the sectors that have left the street: yellow jackets are an example of resistance and effectiveness. By pooling and mobilising, the objectives are achieved.
