Among the issues that come out from time to time, this is one of the conversations that we have between friends and friends that we have been on the periphery of Bilbao over the last two decades around the nationalist world. We could start with international opportunities, with Catalonia or with the generalised crisis of the state that is evident, but our gazes do not go as far. Relationships on the street, work interviews, family difficulties and illusions are our basis. A trip through the metro to Bilbao, our sociology laboratory.
Although the dynamics in favor of the right to decide has borne fruit, it has its own limitations. The vast majority of society is now in favour of the right to decide, but, with exceptions, we see it in the difficulties of extending the movement beyond nationalism. Their initiatives do not appreciate the freshness, illusion, naturalness and enthusiasm of feminist or pensioner marches.
Nor has the EAJ-PNV/EH Bildu agreement on the new status generated much enthusiasm among us. Without much hope of what it is going to give and waiting for the PNV’s backwater, we feel the agreement far from the issues of interest to the citizens.
In addition to the closure of the State, the events in Catalonia make it difficult to imagine that a process of repression and decision can be carried out without long years of imprisonment.
In the meantime, our people are demobilized at full speed. Without its own sovereign structure, as a result of globalisation, consumption and new lifestyles, we have difficulty in creating linguistic uses, cultural references, cross-border relations, our own economy ... Making it increasingly apparent that it is impossible to survive as a people.
Hence the question: Are we not wasting time while we are liquidating the right to decide as a people?
We love to talk about these issues with those who are older than us, aware of how difficult it is to accept all those who have brought us the tiredness of the last phase of struggle. Aware that it is almost impossible with the States that dominate us to obtain the right to decide or, going beyond the logic of Txiberta, to imagine another path that is not linked to the PNV. We, however, see new opportunities that can be deepened in the new era. Creating models of municipality, from the development of the local economy or the education of children. Since the materialization of the proposals of social demands (feminism, pensioners) that have emerged in our people, since the creation of new demands, from the confrontation with the states of these lines and from the accumulation of forces around them.
New thoughts and initiatives for the new time: life, imagery and dynamics.
