Egyptian rock trawl method
  • A team of archaeologists from the East French Institute of Archaeology and the University of Liverpool have described how rocks moved in the time of Pharaoh Keops based on inscriptions from the old alabaster quarry of Hatcloud (Egypt).

On both sides of a large ramp, stairs were opened where gaps were opened for access to vertical posts. The alabaster blocks were dragged by the wooden sledges of the central ramp and used the vertical posts as pulleys to push them forward, helped by a string system.

Thanks to this system, they were able to overcome slopes of up to 20%.
