These experiences give you renewed strength. Completely. Over 400 people gathered in Zubieta (Gipuzkoa) will not easily forget the preparation of this sunny weekend. The agenda prepared by the friends of the Free Territory has masterfully brought together the various colours, sizes and political personalities complementary to popular movements. Undoubtedly, our brains and our hearts have felt a very exciting earthquake at the end of last week and you'll see the results. Explaining the relationship between the following three concepts, I want to give you my opinion on what happened there.
People. It has been confirmed that we are the starting point and goal in Zubieta. An element that must always be in the center. Above the complex dynamics of conflicts and below the liberating, egalitarian and revolutionary objectives, individuals are the protagonists of a good life, a “life worth living”. Without us there is no community or collectivity. Individuals are motors and receptors of all changes. The north is a new humanism.
Conflicts are not the goal, but the tools to measure our forces and know our borders.
Conflicts. There are many campaigns and socio-political conflicts taking place in the Basque Country. Chinese Christian writer Lin Yutang said: “Conflicts always exist. Do not try to avoid them, but to understand them.” Conflicts are not the objective, but the tools for measuring our forces and knowing our borders. Feminism has shown us that fears and vulnerabilities are essential, that we cannot deny and that if we are present, our struggles will be healed. Conflict can be learned from all processes, winning or losing.
Utopia. The new changes of recent years are confusing us. The hegemony of our enemies is obvious and we do not know what is going to be beyond capitalism. Our intersectional and multicolous practice needs a “hybrid” theory, the material socio-economic contradictions and the limits of nature, the sexual and racist oppression and the political right to decide, need a new theoretical corpus that puts the axes or headlights on the path to transition. That is what I call socialist ecofeminism. A new utopian ideology that is about to write but not write. Yes, I say, not mythological or metaphysical. Pruden Gartzia said: “Utopias are looked at, valued, fragmented, dialogued, negotiated, shared, because after all they can be achieved.”
On Sunday afternoon, when the helicopters and the Ertzaintza came to defend the construction of the Zubieta toxic enclave, they reminded us of the practical difficulties of what they had talked about over the past two and a half days. He sent us a violent plastic image of power and a brutal whirlwind with the intention of removing our utopias. I remember the slogan of the tireless wrestler Periko Solabarria: “If they don’t let us dream, we don’t let them sleep.”
