I approached the presentation of the Basque Film that will take place in the framework of the San Sebastian Film Festival. How many men! It's weird! I don't think there's a lot of people in our country who live in film, but they live in film. This is the highest participation in history, with around twenty films. To me, the truth is that, with the exception of the shorts, I leave seventeen. However… I’m sure the fascination of numbers will tell many that it’s good news. I am not going to start saying the opposite, but I have doubts. There are only two of those that we can consider to be the main ones. In the Official Section, but out of competition, Telmo ESNAL has selected Koldo Almadoz Oreina as Dantza and New Directors. Those of you who see the half-empty bottle will say that we've come down.
Days later, within the Etorkizuna Eraikiz initiative of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Jose Luis Rebordinos, Itziar Ituño and Aitor Arrangi discussed the future of Basque film. There was talk of new technologies, of social networks, of changes in consumption habits, of new platforms, etc., but in addition to those on everyone’s lips, it was clear that it is difficult to advertise. Following the tradition of comparison with films of our size, the policies and models they develop in countries such as Denmark and Iceland were mentioned. And I would cite an important feature, the awareness of the authorities in those countries of developing their own cinema. In that comparison, those who see the half-full bottle will also say that we lose out.
Compared to other times, today the importance of telling our history is not questioned. And another idea that is being imposed is "visibility." It is not enough to do so if you do not see it later. In this connection, the effectiveness of the Zinemira section was also discussed. It's clear that Zinemaldia is a great window for showing our films, but it's important to know where they look. It's not the same Officer, Zabaltegi, New Directors or Zinemira. Film is not about people who are engaged in industry. So you don't see movies. It therefore has the same effectiveness as the delivery to the Lekeitio Board. No, because the Meeting is more effective for Euskal Herria.
To that I give the trace of the Feast that is celebrated the Day of the Basque Film. That is where we meet those who work around the Basque Cinema, not all, but no one else. However, I am sure that if it were held any other day of the year, not so many people would approach it. It must be glamour.
I don't know how to see the half empty or half full bottle. I just know one thing. On the same day of the Basque film show, the film Non was premiered. In the first pass we were ten. Do the consequences.
