OK, TAV is crazy.
  • The European Court of Auditors (TAV in Euskal Herria, TGV in France, AVE in Spain…) has published a disappointing report on the high-speed rail network in Europe.

It has defined it as “an ineffective mosaic” and it has defined it as “a great deceit”: tremendous project and construction overruns, failure to target clients, total inability to connect with other means of transport such as air… The cost per kilometre is EUR 25 million. Thus, Y Vasca would cost EUR 7 billion, well above ADIF forecasts. For Hendaia, connection with the rest of Europe is already ruled out. Moreover, the alleged intention to compensate for the lack of passengers with the transport of goods, defended in Vitoria-Gasteiz on so many occasions, has been rejected by numerous reports.

In the face of this economic unpurpose, is the idea of the APR as a whole not insane? All the political leaders who have passed through the governments of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa and Navarra, in one way or another, have defended this madness that the European institutions have now called into question. If it had been a private company, all those responsible would certainly be dismissed. But because they are politicians for four years, the lack of purpose and economic waste continue to exist. With Lemoiz the same thing happened.

It would be logical to paralyse the works of the TAV, conduct a neutral audit and see, with the participation of the public, what other alternatives there may be for a social means of transport. At least the Vitoria-Gasteiz Government should assume this madness, paralyse the works and promote an open debate. The debate that is necessary, but which has been stolen from the public.
