Two years ago Dani Martirena and Ana Ibáñez published Hankaz gora du amak mundua zuen, which is also a curious book.
And before we start with the content, we have to mention the format. Anybody can see that this book has no leaves, or maybe it does, and that like an accordion, text and images go through. In each folding we have a cardboard box, at the top of the text and inside the box the different elements that make up the image (cotton to make the cloud, small cardboard aircraft, small umbrellas, wood holders…). In other words, the reader, instead of being in front of an ordinary book, meets a proposal for reading and playing.
If we focus on the content of the book, on the development of oneself, on his desire to be, on the desire, Jon wants to be Jone. “But without becoming big, he has a dream with a full heart. Jon is a girl, from a young age, barefoot or dressed in a jacket.” But to reach that expression, before that expression appears in the last page, in the last drawer, we will have news of Jone's dreams and desires: “Jon wants to be older. And more stuff. Small and big things.” And that is, with that beginning, the authors start counting all Jone's wishes.
The authors teach us that he wants to be a car driver through 14 boxes and three holes in each ear, dreamers, pilot aviators, sailors… And in each of these proposals we can read some comments, like when he says he wants to be a sailor: “To cross the seas, Jon wants to find the hidden salt at the bottom of the sea, inflating the fabrics of the boat. He wants to know where the wave mill is. That's what Jon wants to know. And, boga boga, then throw the truth into the world.” These comments may prove too high for the reader, who counts too much in insufficient space, making the text cumbersome. On the other hand, it cannot be denied that these texts are poetic and imaginative for more educated readers. This book, as Asun Agiriano says on the back cover, is “a long invitation to leave the mind free to listen to your heart’s heartbeats and set your brains in motion”; not only because of the subject it deals with, but also because of the way they have counted that being – Jon is the girl – incorporating poetry and art. n
