Two years ago there was a great salsa on social media, after the television channel La Sexta did it with the True Detective series. In early 2015, it was announced that all episodes of the first season of this large television series would be broadcast. Keep in mind that they should have been a year after their premiere in North America. So almost everyone had the opportunity to see it before, but well, let us leave this aside, because the sacrilegium was another. As you will know from those of you who have seen the production – perhaps you have also heard it – in the last part of the fourth chapter, we can see a wonderful sequence plane that is a unique demonstration of technique and coordination. Some say it's one of the best drawings in the history of the small screen in recent years, from the time the sequence is recorded to the time the first cut occurs, in this case, there are almost 7 minutes. At a time when all the technical staff, including the actor, who is part of this shoot, are involved in immense work and a unique synchronization exercise. A single error can push you to record the entire sequence from the start, with stress, fatigue and, above all, loss of money.

Well, taking into account the work behind it, La Sexta didn't think of anything better than putting a cut in the center of that plane and adding a space for ads of 7 minutes. On the web, it was also announced with the title “Six Minute Sequence Plan, Golden End of the Chapter”. They cut off the piece they wanted and spoiled the moment I was thinking about to see the spectators completely. The section, therefore, could not be fully enjoyed. In recent years, many examples similar to this disaster can be found – Lost could be the clearest one – not perhaps by cuts, but by constant changes in time/day, by repetitions of sections or by filling spoilers to promote networks.

The hearing data show the clearest conclusion of the ill-treatment suffered by these productions. The well-known Downton Abbey, for example, in the United Kingdom, for example, had an average of over 10 million data. In Antena 3, on the other hand, it failed to overcome the barrier of one million viewers. Or Mad Men and The Sopranos. After receiving criticism from all over the world and being able to export without any problem to the whole world, television channels Four and La Sixth had a painful occurrence of scheduling in low hours, at 1:30 in the morning. In other words, these excellent foreign products do not comply with prime time times, in most cases, swim in the late-night zone, in the first line, of course, placing the Spanish series.

But beware, as I said at the beginning, there is a small extraordinary group, which hardly appreciates the effects of all these mistakes and shocks of those responsible for television channels. Castle, The Big Bang Theory, CSI, House, Criminal Minds, Bones… Putting aside the arguments that are good or bad, more or less, but they've been preserved for years, and seriously, don't think these grills haven't been going up and down in their opening hours and days. Why do the spectators remain faithful, then, along with these series? The information is very simple. Because all of these series are procedural. Procedural series are those with independent parts. That is, at the beginning of each episode a sub-plot opens, a case with the same characters. But at the end of the day, that particular story closes. This does not require a thorough and clear follow-up of the series, since, at least in part, episodes may be loose. And here's the key, if I like one of these series that don't stop dancing in the programming, but if I lose a chapter because of those changes, nothing happens, because they don't have a single strand of a whole season.

The issue of dubbing also seems to me to be a point that I do not want to overlook. We are becoming more and more the spectators that we want to see at a rate in which the series that come from our country of origin are broadcast. I would say that a few years ago they were young, but today more and more adults join the army of the defenders of the original language.

However, thanks to the arrival of digital platforms such as Netlfix, HBO or Amazon, these teleseries that were previously only available in the “regular supermarkets”, have now managed to reach all kinds of audiences easily. Ordered and ordered seasons, without ads, offering the possibility to see them in the original and à la carte language. The era of watching foreign series on conventional television is turning off. But what you mean, in order to manage it as it has been managed so far, does not seem to me to be such bad news.
