Lateral load
For those of us working in the Basque media, monitoring the women’s sports of Basque women must be an inescapable objective. You are thinking “what less in a public environment”. You are absolutely right.
At a time when most of the media are making a strategic commitment to Castilian, those of us who work solely in Basque have quite a lot of problems to have a little dignity today. Worthy and strategic, a couple of ethereal concepts that often cannot be put into the same yoke.
The situation has taken lateral load, almost all the apple in the same basket and the donkey to one side, most of the time to the right, folded. Spanish is imposed every day when it comes to the choice of language and content, and, on the excuse of the hearings, almost all the media have made decisions not to drown. That Euskera is not strategic, apparently.
There are decisions that do not accept the vote and I, in my opinion, thought that the Basque was one of them. I, poor man. On television, at least, many conditions must be met for the program to be a little clean: for the interviewee to be Euskaldun, separated from some activity, to have time to come and to know or to express what they have lived. Maybe with a lot of conditions.
On the second Sunday of the Regatas of San Sebastian this year, the women were thrown into the water counterclockwork “forced” by the harsh conditions of the sea. Men, maintaining the sacred tradition, launaka a launaka bi txanetan.
We had a long discussion about it, once the race was over, when we took refuge in the smooth and picturesque streets of the old town: to see if the danger was the same for everyone, if there is a big difference to withstand the impact of the wave on the boat for men or women, if all female trainees had enough experience to navigate this type of sea, why at times when they dominate the rowing world there are so little women.
We would be happy to hear the views of the remers once the waters were calm. Was the decision to leave under these conditions a decision made with them? Did they agree to go against the clock or, if they did, in their usual way, four in four, were they in favour of doing so? We were eager to know.
All the media, those who have placed a burden on the burro of information on the side of Castilian, and the others, we have all the year ahead so that women and sport are protagonists in our daily lives.
The protagonists themselves have to realize that some of us have more difficult work than others. Woman, athlete and Euskaldun. Is it a lot to ask?
