A total of 12,665 voters voted in favour of EH Bai in the Basque Parliament. What is the assessment of the results?

Without frightening, the result has been very positive. First, because the legislative elections are the most complicated, because a Member is elected to the French National Assembly. Choosing a patriot is weird. However, EH Bai was the third force in Ipar Euskal Herria. We increased the number of votes and the percentage. The context is difficult: the legislative elections are conditioned by the presidential elections, after which the electorate re-votes the newly elected president. After eight months of campaigning in the Hexagon, which started with the primaries on the left and right, we appeared at the last moment. The fact that this number of votes is obtained under these conditions is of tremendous value. In addition, the abstention has been greater than ever before, and we have risen up in our small town.

From the constituency to the constituency, what would I stress?

In the VI district, in the district of San Juan de Luz, and IV.enean, in the district that joins us with Biarno, we are well, but our weak point is that of the AMPA (Baiona-Angular - Biarritz). In big cities, the results are bad, although we are increasing – indeed we have also made progress in Biarritz – we generally do not get a sufficient increase.

How can the results in BA be increased?

In BABn or in cities there is no bad destination. For example, in 2001, in San Juan de Luz, newborn Herri Berri, we did 11.5%, it wasn't a huge percentage, but working from votes to votes, being present in the works of the people, sixteen years later, we did 26% of the votes. We are the first opposition group in the House of the People, with four elects. And San Juan de Luz looks more like Biarritz than Ezterenzubi. In other words, it can also be increased in DA. But that requires being present in everyday politics. There is the strategic problem of nationalism in the city. In Biarritz we have no Basque lists in the votes of the people. The Basque candidates, perhaps comfortably, are on each other's lists, most of them on the right-wing lists. How do you want the rest of the elections to be increased? How do you want it to gain credibility, if you do not have your own message in the legislators to ask for your vote? Our solution lies in the popular work and in the votes of the people, if we do not work in depth, we will hardly increase in the cities.

However, have the six EH Bai candidates been increasingly visible in towns and cities?

Yes, of course. We have to emphasize our age, we are about 40 years old. Compared to the other candidate, we are young. Our strength lies in it. We have brought fresh air into politics, we are changing the message of nationalism. A few years ago we told people that “we are Basques, you are also”. With this only message in coastal cities, they said, "Are we Basques?" The current message is as follows: “You can be Euskaldunes and in these areas of life – housing, employment, transport, waste... – we present solutions that do not have others or do not have”. In San Juan de Luz we mentioned housing in the last campaign and we have gained credibility. People not only see us as Euskaldunes and Abertzales, but as an alternative to improve their lives. This coherent message is the key to our success. We are young, left-wing, technically serious, we are also doing political pedagogy, we are not falling into dogmas and simplistic messages.

The key, therefore, is the integration of the nationalist candidatures and of EH Bai in each of them.

Yes. Herri Berri’s candidacy is a good example, but it cannot be equated with EH Bai and Herri Berri. EH Bai is an Abertzale left and ecological party, Herri Berri is much broader. In the Herri Berri group there is an Abertzale nucleus, and in the nearby environment those who are not. For example, Ivette Debarbieux (member of the Communist Party) of the PCF entered Herri Berri, having been on the PCF and PS lists in previous votes. This woman hasn't left her party, but she's gotten into the Abertzale dynamic as she's known us. For example, Bake Bidea is also involved in the initiative. I did not think that I would support us in the elections to Parliament, because the PCF and the French Submissive presented their candidate. Some people who were far away from us are slowly getting closer, we're becoming credible because we've given an open vision to share with us. EH Bai is opening. Some nationalists believe that participation in the legislative elections is a game to the system.

I do not agree with them. It may be out of the system, but in that position I find the syndrome of the last Mohicans: “We are disappearing and are willing to disappear, pure and simple.” I don't want to go away. What's more, I have to be in the system not to disappear and take my alternative and change it inside. When I'm out of the system, people think of me as marginal, and I'm going to disappear. I want to tackle the problems actively. When I move around the village market, “What do I have to say to my neighbor to get a better understanding?” I ask myself. “I’m Basque, your system drowns me, I don’t want to know anything about you,” and if I tell you, you’ll think, “Who is this idiot?” There are patriots who want to be clean, they say that we are wrong in fighting. Those who criticize our path do not see them anywhere, except in some articles or on the terraces of the bars saying “you waste your time in the elections”. What is your alternative? To say that we are wrong without proposing an alternative, I regard it as irresponsible.

Nationalism is always on a curve in Iparralde.

Surely. I'm not just a patriot, I'm also a citizen. I have a citizen consciousness, looking at society, not only do I offer it my nationalist vision, but a vision that wants to defend morality. I am a little bourgeois Peio Etxeberri-Aintziart, I have work, a house, I am not poor, but I see the unemployed people: paperless, stigmatized black or Arab, invalid, etc. If I abandon the political space, if I do not propose alternatives, even more so if I do not vote, I let others choose on my behalf. Let us suppose that it was the National Front (FN) who mandated, the consequences would not necessarily suffer, but those people. When I vote, maybe I feed the system, but to start with, I want to think that I also voted for those people. Those who criticise us may be clear, but in part they are selfish.

The Republic in March party of Emmanuel Macron has been imposed on the second round of Spain. Give us your opinion on this new political phenomenon.

The situation is completely new and no one can predict what the five-year period of Macron will bring. So far, Doctor V. In the Republic we have known classical alternation, repeating the right and the left. The change is intended to respond to a structural problem of the State in the medium term, linked, moreover, to the crisis situation. The crisis has continued for three decades and in the last it has intensified due to the economic, social and climatic crisis. People have been satisfied, because neither the Right nor the Classical Left have found solutions to the problem of unemployment. Abstention in the elections has increased, and the extreme right and left have been increasing: FN and France are an example of this. This phenomenon has also occurred in Europe. They thought it was not going to happen in the French state, but it has also happened here, not only for structural reasons, but also for short-term reasons. Politicians do not help to resolve the crisis, they have also suffered irregularities in their policy, they employ their friends fictiously, that is, they steal the soda.

The powers of the system have seen a kind of solution in Macron.

Macron realized that people had been satisfied, boring, and that he needed a window to get into power, it's been offered by the right and the left. The right, in primaries, when choosing François Fillon, the right-wing and traditionalist candidate, opened the center to Macron. If it was Alain Juppé, Macron would not have had that space. On the left, after a bad five-year term, Benôit Hamon was elected, who was on the left. If it had been Manuel Valls, the situation would have been uneven. All of this has made Macron a wider space. No one can say what he is going to bring, he says, that he feeds on the left and on the right, but I do not believe that this broad field can last in the long term. What is more, in this mixture the right will triumph, liberalism. That does not satisfy the majority. The communication will allow you to retain it for one or two years, but for a moment you will have to choose between several issues and lose the support you currently have.

Florence Lasserre-Davide and vincent Bru are the new Members of Ipar Euskal Herria.

Knowing those Members, Macron's alternative makes me even more insecure. They are brought in as people who have not held any office, who are going to change the policy, and that is not true. On the one hand, Lasserre-Davide, daughter of Jean-Jaques Lasserre, is elected from Angelu and the Department, does not attend meetings, does nothing. Colette Capdevielle has dealt in the campaign with the former MEP, who did not know the dossiers, who had nothing to say in the discussions. The new District VI Member is Vincent Bru, Mayor of Kanbo for 30 years, and also the elected Department Member, who five years ago replaced the right-wing Member Michèle Alliot-Marie de Les Républicains. The MoDem of Bayrou forced him to go to the En Marche de Macron. Is that a change in policy? However, the two have been chosen by the people, driven by the wave of Macron.El the risk of increased abstention is increasing, and also the risk of people seeing politicians with suspicion.

People – women and men – make politics. If we are human beings, we have limits, we have moral boundaries. With the power and money at stake, politics begins to professionalize, and the trend is imposed “I don’t want to lose my position and my career, not lose honor in society”. It's sweet to be selected, it has added value. This drives the politician, not only in Paris, there above all, but we the people’s elect are not out of that danger, but also the small office of our people’s houses brings us the honour – in case we don’t earn a penny – of the honor and notabilism that both Enbata and EMA have criticised in the past. In most cases, those who are most critical of the notable are those who want to do their part. So as the Abertzale movement has more elected offices, it risks that. In its typical form, this practice is spreading across a number of peoples. We too, the patriots, have that landfall, and in that brow we can fall. So let's start cleaning up that trend in our own house.
