For social sovereignty
  • The secretaries-general of ELA and LAB, Adolfo Muñoz and Garbiñe Aranburu, appeared last week at the Self-Government Conference of the Parliament of Vitoria-Gasteiz and published a joint note claiming a new status “with full competence in the socio-political and socio-economic field”.

This hearing, which is important at the moment, has served to demonstrate that both trade unions are committed to social sovereignty. In addition, it represents a further step in the desire to move towards joint union action, as you pointed out in your congresses.

The Basque trade unions consider that it is clear that another statutory reform would be a fraud against the majority of workers: Use the centralizing policy of Madrid, cuts to self-government, non-compliance with the Statute, transferred competences and the Economic Concert to promote corporate and capital incomes at the hands of PNV, PSE and pp.

In order to change this situation, it is essential that legislation can be adopted on the basis of labour relations and social protection. In this way we will ensure that “we will be able to decide on our social and labor model”, or “we will be able to implement fiscal, economic and social policies”. And all of this, as we have seen, is impossible to move forward from bilateralism with the Spanish State. The unions want to make a sovereign social process based on unilaterality, recognize that Euskal Herria is a political subject and “freely decide its legal framework”. They will surely re-attack the Abertzale syndicalism for “entering politics”, but as a union they have every right to participate in the construction of society.
