As with most artists from Euskal Herria, Naia del Castillo Aira (Bilbao, 17 July 1975) is not well known for its tour of museums and galleries around the world. In 2002 he was selected for the cover of the catalog of the festival Le Printemps de Septembre, which is held in Toulouse (Occitania), hours of office, and later went out in the newspaper Le Monde. It belongs to the series “Trapped”, Domestic Space - Housework like this one.
You and I are trapped by the routine, by its cruelty, by its lack of meaning, by its inertia, by its inertia, by its happiness.
In the works of this section, the artist is a constant in her work, shows signs, but focusing on the relationship of the human being with them, the people are the protagonists, the people are trapped, you and I are trapped by the everyday, their cruelty, their lack of sense, their slow inertia, their insatiable happiness.
This section asks about the house, especially for the space that protects us and oppresses us. In the words of the artist: “The domestic space is basically an accumulation of spaces defined by function. There is dining room to eat, sleeping bedroom, cooking kitchen... At home, we move according to the premises of these spaces. And that's what makes me wonder. To what extent do we own that space, and to what extent do we own that space that forces us to act according to what it has established itself?”
Who shapes who? Do people shape the house or is it the other way around? Is the body shaping the dress or is it the other way around? Do we shape our own lives, or is it the other way around?
The artist was inspired by the spaces and works that until now have been “of the woman” and whose original title is Spanish: Domestic Space - Work The title immediately brings you to a world of reference.
