The audience started whistling and throwing objects onstage, including oranges. The premiere was canceled. According to several sources, the incident resulted in the arrest of 40 persons and the arrest of a mourning in the centre of the capital.

Today, the Consecration of the Spring is conceived as one of the most outstanding works of contemporary music and as the basis of the musical avant-garde of the twentieth century.
