Final farewell to Artxanda amusement park
- The Amusement Park of Artxanda was opened in 1974 by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia. At that time it was the most modern park in Europe, with attractions never seen before. The beginning was very successful and every year some new attraction was inaugurated, for example, the first was zoological in 1975.
It is the most fun world dedicated to leisure of 100,000 m2 of payment, thought for all ages and designed to spend there all day, according to advertisers. It cost 551 million pesetas of the time and employed 130 people.
However, from the beginning the number of visits was much lower than the estimated; the special time, location, access and ticket prices had much to say. From 1985 onwards, the drop in visitors was unstoppable, until in 1990 the park issued its last breath, definitively closing it.
Since then, the park has been used as a warehouse, but over time, climatology and nature has been eliminated. There is only one small island left out of that initial park. This year, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia announced that the Park will begin to collapse. Consequently, greetings forever
