The Baserria XXI initiative, born in recent years, brings together baserritarras and workers from the primary sector who work in Gipuzkoa from agroecology. Seeing the need to weave relationships, the first job was to find and bring together people who worked the land in the valley.
First of all, the first assemblies were
to get to know each other, above all: who they showed up, what they did... Many baserritars participated in the first assemblies.
To invigorate the process of creating the new partnership, they received the help of the Joxemi Zumalabe Foundation. In several organized sessions, the difficulties and deficiencies that were shared were identified. On the other hand, within the association, working groups were formed: disobedience, pressure and occupation, formation and networking and organizational model and commercialization.
“The way the house works in the XXI is an assembly: each working group has representatives who take turns and participate in the monthly meeting to carry out the management,” says Ane Gorosabel, member of the Baserria XXI association.
The press conference held in Donostia-San Sebastián on 1
October was an important event for the Baserria XXI partnership and for the primary sector of Gipuzkoa in general. The objective of this day was to bring together the farmers and farmers of the country and make a presentation of the group, reflecting in some way the diversity of the primary sector. “We want to bring together young people who in recent years have started working in the primary sector and older people who have been around for 40 years.”
The members of the group undertook to continue working at the press conference: “We will work on a day-to-day basis to ensure that our land and natural resources are used for sustainable agriculture and livestock, that landless people can access the land, that the importance of baserritarras women is recognised, that all people, but above all the smaller ones, are guaranteed the right to eat quality food.”
As they say ... “Keep the earth!”
