This year’s Musical Fortnight has given us good moments, no doubt. The English Baroque Soloists group, the Ballet of the Grand Theatre of Geneva, the Don Giovanni opera… we had some very interesting sessions. We have also received visits from major orchestras. We enjoyed the Budapest Festival Orchestra in its three performances, and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra showed its high level. Founded in 1929, this group is the third oldest orchestra radio in Germany and is formed in all styles, although it specialises in romanticism. On this occasion, classicism was the protagonist of both programs. Good result.
At the first concert we heard Beethoven. Coriolano arrived at the opening with the necessary emotion, animated, temperamental. Then 9. Symphony in re minor op. 125 125. Coral was the strong afternoon dish. Director Philippe Herreweghe made a somewhat “nerdy” proposal. Maybe the versions we hear are a lot more romantic, a lot quieter, and that's why we were surprised by Herreweghe's approach. However, I found it fresh and different. The Coral Andra Mari performed her interpretation correctly. This is the 50th anniversary of the group, and the public was particularly sensitive to its work. The soloists filled their papers well but without gloss.
The next day, we got Beethoven back to the beginning. The consecration of the house was made with a very lucid opening. Concert for cello de Haydn, do mayor, hob.
