This book is structured by characters that are mother, father, grandmother, husband, daughter, lover, brother and me. The protagonist, Berta, regrets the experience with each of them through interviews, memories, reflections and dreams. Share fragments of life to talk about family, friendship, motherhood, men and women, love, sex or life.
If this writer's Greta novel suggested a script for a movie, the vermut includes a script for a theater play at 12 o'clock. A spotlight illuminates a woman and we hear her monologue, in which occasionally images or characters from the memories cross with her in a naked setting.
Berta has made “the way forward” and has reached the middle of his life, to the time of fallen myths. Their relatives will have a mirror in which to reflect their trajectory. We have the memory of a generation, placed in a genealogy. “I have not yet found in my interior that last part that motherhood would have made me a whole woman.”
Grandma has played the role that has touched her as a woman until her widowhood, and that is when she comes to freedom and the time to be subject. “To work, to food and to txikite. And twice a week, I would open my thighs and put my penis in. That was your godfather. Like most men.”
The mother, on the other hand, has spent her life trying to fulfill the two functions established by her role, becoming the attractive and beautiful mother and woman, the stepmother of Snow White. In this book, the love-hate relationships between mother and daughter will be shown in all their crudety. “What is love but a trap invented by someone? A trap that keeps families happy prisoners? Censorship of desire?”
The friend of her youth is also a woman who has failed in her attempt to survive as best as possible. However, he has admired and been an example of what his handle has been at many times. “I’ve always preferred the testicles for the beds, but for life they give much more strength to the breasts, the vagos.”
She wants to teach her daughter that it's worth living, that she has to look for happiness. Continue to overcome the obstacles and remember the actions of the previous ones. “It’s good to cry. Look at me if not. You know that being a woman is the greatest misfortune in this world.”
It is, therefore, a tribute to those who have tried to be women, to question the female role, to become aware through memory. “Heroin in the blood. A heroin that doesn't appear in any literature. Heroines. My mother. Grandmothers. Daughters. Friends.”
