The connection between cold and historical misfortunes
An international team of researchers has analyzed 545 trees in the mountains of Tatra (Slovakia) through dendrochronology, which has allowed to know the climatic variations in Europe in the last millennium. According to the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, coldest times coincide with wars, conflicts, plagues, mass migratory movements and other tragic events. In particular, there was an extreme cold during the Black Death, the Thirty Years' War and the Napoleon campaign in Russia.
However, scientists have acted wisely in drawing conclusions, “because the relationships between culture and climate are too complex to generalize them.”
