In Europe there has been LUZ. Brussels. Well, in fact, the members of the platform for the disconnect of the Oiola swamp, on 14 and 15 March, have brought to the European Parliament a video on the subject. They have denounced that the reservoir is contaminated with lindane and have come to the area to call for a solution to the problem.

Lindane: water polution in the Basque Country, audiovisual in Basque with English subtitles explaining the problem with the Oiola reservoir around Barakaldo and Sestao, was presented to the European Petitions Committee. Despite the fact that several entities intended to end the Oiola issue on the basis of a report stating that two landfills in the area are closed, the platform for the disconnect of the swamp has managed to continue to analyse the case in Brussels.

A video produced by ARGIA has also been released in Ekozinemaldia, Barakaldo, Ataun, Segura, Leioa and Artea. The tenth edition of the Ekozinemaldia, organized by Ekologistak Martxan, was attended by Unai Brea of Argia, who has participated in several projections.

The product created by the media has become useful to the popular movement. Wet signal. “The popular movement has this complaint and the other party says this,” abandons the usual format and assumes the problem in the explanations, as it is everybody’s. And we may have to talk to the popular movements and ask ourselves what we can help the media; likewise our work will not only have to make the news and put the issue on the table, but also make available to the social agents all the material that is useful in their struggles (explanatory video or summary of the subject, photographic collections..). Perhaps the key is to bring these struggles to our area, as the treatment that will be given to that section in the middle from the moment we feel, will be closer.
