With or without skull on hand
When Hamlet says “be or not be”, in the first scene of the third act, the Danish prince is in his castle and has no skull in his hand. The skull episode is from the first scene of the fifth act. Hamlet, a court scarf with Yorick's skull, is in a graveyard and reflects on death and the passage of time, remembering his friend's virtues. Being one of the most powerful images of the play, Hamlet has often been depicted with a skull in paintings and posters.
Therefore, between the passages there is a difference of two exercises. But over time, the best-known phrase and Hamlet's most widespread image have come together in the collective imaginary.
