Millions of people are mobilizing around the world, including in Euskal Herria, in defense of a planet threatened by climate change caused by global warming. Faced with much cleaner and more sustainable renewable energies, the planet is the victim of a system that promotes fossil fuels: oil, coal and gas. In view of continued degradation, since 1980, global climate summits have been held, but minimal consensus has not been reached, especially among industrialized countries led by the United States. USA, China and the EU. In a few days’ time, Paris will become the last climate summit that has brought together 195 countries of the world. But we fear that it will be a failure again, or at most a picture of “good intentions” like that of 35 years ago.
Why is there no progress in changing the system and using renewable energies? As always, there are economic reasons. Behind all the governments of the world there are large multinationals. These organizations have not been elected by anyone, but they impose their own energy system on governments. And today, you only see business in solid fuels. If they chose renewables, they would jeopardize their privileges. Not before will they talk about climate change when it becomes a business opportunity (biofuels, derivatives market, disaster insurance, smart crops…).
Meanwhile, they deny climate change and invest millions of euros in spreading their ideas. In Paris, the negationist lobbies are burning, and they will continue to organize more summits to take pictures and maintain their system.
