When the most basic political interest is the defense of the values of private property, the institutions of power, even if they are public, are governed by the interests of private property. “It is for the City Council to grant such authorization when the licence is requested to derribe, it is not optional. (...) otherwise would be prevarication” (although judicial suspicion is different). And so, the case of Kortxoenea becomes “something between individuals”. They are words of the Councillor of Culture, Miren Azkarate. As frightened as the mafia practice of speculators is the protection that public institutions have given to the practice. The worst contradiction of democracy is economic; fear, on the contrary, cultural.

Empty. Demoler. Build. Space and its production have been the key activity in the last cycle of expansion of the world economy. In other words, global capitalism has tried to overcome its own contradictions through the process of production and destruction of space. And violence characterizes neoliberal urbanism as much as the consensus that is sought within the hegemony. The reverse of the same coin.

The struggle dynamics, devastating and asymmetrical to acquire the property of space, entails conflicts, contradictions and confrontations of insurmountable interests. Violence has drastically changed the behavior of the population and, as a result, the ways of understanding and doing the city have also changed. Violence has led to the breakdown of social relations between the two countries. It has stratified territory and forms, materializing material and virtual limits; characterizing identity, class and gender conflicts. We live in cities designed by the aesthetic of terror. The more fear, the more fragmented society is. And terror will easily conquer the divided city. However, violence is not accepted as such. Fragmentation, segregation, gentrification, speculative appropriation of the territory, degradation of the environment... spread hidden or marginalized in the face of the growing demand for exclusionary and generalized security arising from the rise of possible criminality. In other words, a new building will rise in the neighborhood and, the next day, it will move because coffee and rent have increased, it can be violated.

The violence that has occurred in the eviction of the Gaztetxe Kortxoenea, however, is explicit and evident. This generates no doubts, although it is new due to its forms and forms in the environment. Seoul, Delhi, Shanghai, Beijing, London, Madrid, Barcelona… and now also Donostia. Following the collapse of the building, which has become a symbol of an alternative and auterized culture, Donostia-San Sebastián has entered one of those world lists that the authorities so much like. In the list of cities that have premiered the culture of violence with furrows and iron clubs in speculative issues in the urban realm. Recently, San Sebastian has been awarded a European prize for urbanism awarded by the Academy of Urbanism and Urbanism. The jury evaluates examples of urban good practice in areas such as leadership and government, community, well-being and learning capacity. And we've learned it in this Donostia School of Medicine of our own. The hiring of wage earners for the eviction of a building that the employer, who has not obtained a eviction order, intends to demolish at all costs, was remote, despite the practices already observed: First in the occupied house Maison 13 de Bilbao (2014) and then in the occupied social area Itsas Gain de Donostia (2015).
