Roll-call vote
I have long been calling for a roll-call vote. That is, it is very healthy to change the party, rewarding or punishing its activity every time. I am convinced that the freer the voters are from the bondage of the acronym, the more they own the society of their future.
And in the last elections, the vote has moved quite a bit. It is the first time in Navarre that all the parties that have ruled so far can be sent to the opposition. I see in this revolution the highest exercise of sovereignty that a society can do. In Gipuzkoa, the waters have been partially recovered. EH Bildu thought that the 2011 victory was not back, but Gipuzkoan society has shown that it does not sign a blank cheque, that its will must be won every time.
In Álava there have been movements of interest: To Maroto, Lepenism has given him some votes in favour, but in exchange for a huge increase in opposition; at the same time, we can erode traditional unionism and nationalists have endured it well. From the point of view of the Basque nation, Álava is no longer “the seventh daughter”. Finally, Bizkaia is the territory in which the vote is least moved. It is true that the Left Margin has become nationalist over the years, as if it had also surrendered to the majority party there. But that superiority is confirmed year after year.
However, and despite the fact that the PNV’s position of strength has been extended to the four countries, I am convinced that outside Bizkaia it will have to work in new ways. In fact, the vote of the Unionist parties has collapsed, and the usual allies with which the Jeltzales have been found are becoming weaker. In the CAV the main pact will be the Socialists, apparently, but it will not always be enough for them and, by the mobility of votes, it does not seem to be a long-term formula.
For me, all the keys are in Navarre: the social basis of change must continue to increase; the right to decide of the Navarros will be a powerful instrument to join wills; the different types of government are possible in change; the content that will be agreed will also be interesting for the CAV... I would say that in Navarre a new Basque citizenship can be cooked, open, shared, Basque and solidarity... And it is clear that the votes that have been cast have been those that have brought this possibility.
Ergo... we will achieve by multiplying the mobile vote the emancipation of such a necessary society and the new balance with the parties.
