Remember prisons when they were X years plus a day? That day marked the difference with the next most serious kind of penalty, but it had no other significance. Now, on the other hand, in the elections of 24 May – as in others, of course – the centre has been a day, although four more years have to be added to that date. Therefore, once that dollar has been left behind, we must continue for the next four years. In other words, one day we have decided on the next four years in our municipalities and parliaments.

That is what the political forces have talked about: trying to get the most votes out of 26M, explaining what they were going to do in the future – or silencing, because there are different styles. It has, however, made me very curious that it is a number of parties – at state level – that propose or offer, which cannot be decided either in the municipalities, in the foreign parliaments, or in the autonomous communities. Why have they not confined their speeches to the electoral arena? Did they not have special proposals for these areas?

On the other hand, in these elections it has become clear – as the results say – why so many surveys? – that no one has obtained a sufficient majority to govern alone, at least in the big cities and in the parliaments. It is also clear that this suspicion has been throughout the campaign and that it has greatly influenced what the parties have said – or have shut it down –.

In this context, it will be essential to reach agreements and agreements in our institutions to form solid majorities or, at least, not to form excessively weak governments. And there's the key, because nobody has wanted to clearly explain their intentions in the campaign, not even at this time.

Some have put “red lines” so as not to agree with: The PSOE has its red lines – I mentioned the PSOE, because Sánchez himself said it – EH Bildu and PP. The pp also has its red lines or, rather, it's stuck in the red lines of most parties. In Gipuzkoa we do not know what Podemos is going to do and in Navarre we do not know what these insurmountable lines are going to be and what they are going to do Podemos and the PSN – forgive me, the PSOE – if they really are in favour of a profound change, which is now, once again, possible. Neither EH Bildu nor the PNV have said what they will do in Donostia-San Sebastián or in the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa – let those who have won or agreed to win another majority rule –.

That secret is what worries me. On the one hand, because we citizens should know in advance what our vote is going to serve. I know that this is not always easy to advance, because it depends on many variables: results, projects... But, for example, knowing whether the force that has expired is left to govern or not, or depends on who is the first force. On the other hand, I fear that as long as the general elections in the autumn state are held, some parties will want to erode or weaken their position, and to do so they may not make a single movement or risk anything. Think, if not, in Navarre or Gipuzkoa: What do those who really want to compete in autumn at state level after these results have to do? What are you going to do, for example, We Can? Is it really going to promote a progressive government, a non-caste government, or is it going to act as a tactic, hiding its head, abstaining, not negotiating? And those decisions can't wait for the general election, of course. It is to be seen: the people have spoken. It is now the time for responsible representatives, who do not need others.
