The Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain plans to create two networks of centres, one in Catalan and one in Spanish, which will be taught in Spanish. Families have the right to choose Spanish if they wish. In 2014-2015, only 40 families asked their children to speak in Spanish. Now, all applications will be examined one by one to decide whether or not they are accepted. The Catalan Minister of Education, Irene Rigau, has stated that some of these requests are prior to the approval of the decree and others have been submitted outside the registration period.

According to the Lomce, if the Generalitat is not able to learn Spanish, she has to find a private center to study a child in public school. In this case, the Spanish Ministry of Education would deduct 6,000 euros per child from the transfers from the educational community.
