Problems with chest prostheses
Between 2001 and 2012, a total of 610,113 breast prostheses were implanted in the French state, 80% of which were for aesthetic purposes.
In 2010, alarms around PIP brand prostheses were unleashed. Between 2010 and 2012, more than 2,000 women reported having had problems with PIP prostheses, a figure that has increased dramatically in the last two years. However, more than 50,000 prostheses are installed in France each year and health officials are concerned about the possible consequences they may have in the coming years.
For this reason, it is recommended to change the prostheses every seven or ten years, since the properties of silicone prostheses are modified and can cause cancer.
