The initiative, which aims to promote Euskalgintza and the purchase and sale of local products, came to many parts of Euskal Herria last fall. In the words of Xabier Gojenola and Peru Aranburu, “it has been an initiative that people have been excited about, and in that sense we have found a very active attitude in different places: ikastolas, euskaltegis, companies…”.
Errigora was born to turn the poor situation of southern Navarre back. On the one hand, in this space that the law has declared as a non-Basque area, the Basque language is not an official language, so there are very few infrastructures to promote the Basque language. On the other hand, Ribera ' s agriculture has been greatly weakened by globalization in recent years. To respond to the situation, Zazpiak Bat and Ikastolen Elkartea organised an initiative in 2012: In Euskal Herria, cedors filled with products from the Ribera were sold, and the economic benefits were destined to the ikastola Argia de Tudela. “The success of the initiative was the origin of Errigora: we saw the need for a project that would be extended over time and that, with the help of a fixed team, would organize this type of campaigns on time”, explains Gojenola. To this end, they contacted the associations working in the Basque Country, AEK and Sortzen Ikasbatean.
“In order for the initiative to be continued, we think it would be appropriate to organise two campaigns a year, in autumn and in spring,” Aranburu explained. Following contacts with farmers in the Ribera and previous communication work (all in Auzolan), a three-week period was opened last autumn to submit applications for baskets. In the last campaign, the beneficiaries were the ikastola de Lodosa, the Euskaltegi de Tudela and the popular initiatives Euskaraz Bizi and Ikasi.
“Before making the overall distribution, we took a sample of 450 baskets. In this case, when preparing and distributing the following 8,000 baskets, the involvement of the people and the desire to collaborate was great: we have not hired any company, everything has been done in auzolan”, recalls Gojenola.
The spring campaign has only just begun. After the success of the previous campaign, the Errigora have a new objective: Extend the channels so that products from southern Navarre can be consumed more sustainably and on a daily basis. For this purpose, between the end of March and the beginning of April the possibility of acquiring oil from Navarre will be organized in several localities, and in June, canned canned canisters will be requested. The aim is to meet long-term needs (oil will be in 5 liter cans and canned cans in cans) and that the price is reasonable.
