The opera Adriana Lecouvreur by Francesco Cilea is a unique piece. It premiered at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1902, but it is absolutely romantic in all respects: it has a completely passionate argument (in the 18th century). Inspired by the life of Adrienne Lecouvreur, 19th century), with venom and musically, he adopts his style of sources of romanticism, albeit with hints of post-romanticism out of time. The most curious thing is that the unequal development of the romantic style of this work, to put it mildly, gives the opera charm and, at the same time, it is boring at some points. Contradictions.
The production of the hand of the ABAO had two of its attractions on this occasion. The first, the absolute protagonist of the film, Ainhoa Arteta. We loved seeing Arteta on the role of Adriana Lecouvreur diva, sometimes so fond, that he played superbly, perhaps on behalf of scene director Lorenzo Mariani. But that was an interpretative effect. Very nuanced by the vocal part and very worked by the gestural aspect. Arteta has a lot of vocal and interpretative resources and a real dramatic instinct. So he took on the role, giving him a drop of grandeur.
The second attraction was Igor Yebra's dance number. Within the argument the adornment of the dance was very well adjusted, very adequate. The duo with Oxana Kucheruk was ameno and, in fact, managed to break the monotony that gradually took the action.
Among the soloists there was everything, and the general tone was quite irregular. Tenor Bruno Ribeiro, in the role of Mauricio, had a complicated beginning, although as the work progressed he found himself with some certainty. Luca Salsi, who played the role of Michonnet, did so effectively and with good voice. The same can be said of the singer Luciana D’Intino in the role of the Princess of Bouillon. On the other hand, we must highlight the interpretations of the Basque singers: Marta Ubieta, in the role of Mademoiselle Jouvenot and Xabier Odriozola in the role of Mayordomo, expressed their honesty and form. Finally, we must not forget the work of Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa and the Bilbao Opera Choir. The conductor Fabrizio Carminati gave dynamism to the training. Be careful.
