The President of the Government of Navarre, Yolanda Barcina, last week starred in a public event held in Toulouse in 2011 by militants opposed to the TAV. The four alleged "aggressors" have been tried in the Spanish National Court and face sentences of between 5 and 9 years in prison for them. This action to demand the cessation of the works of the TAV has not been subject to any criminal sanctions in France. In Spain, however, the prosecutor's office has called an "attack on the authority" and, according to Barcina, "aggression against all Navarros and Navarras".
We know that the criminal codes are set by the regulators, the governments on duty. These, in general, manage capitalism and defend its interests. Few capitalists go through jail and those who pass out quickly. In our society there are other “tartazos”, more bloody and more violent, but they are not judged in the National Audience. The ‘tartan’ is precisely the imposition on the citizens of the TAV that leads nowhere, without debate, because it is costing billions of euros. In Navarre, apart from interest, the expenditure of public coffers amounts to EUR 45 million. As a result of this “tartazo”, there is a lack of funding to guarantee social services: education, welfare, dependency, unemployment, pensioners… The expoliation in the CAN and the diets of political managers and, in addition, wages are a “tartazo”. “Tartazo” is that 60,000 people are in poverty in Navarre, and unemployment worsens: It affects 55,500 people, 18.2% of the country's workforce. The average for the Basque Country is 15.9%. These “tartazos” have responsibility: governments, multinationals, businessmen, bankers, financial speculators… And yet, while citizens receive the cake, unemployment, poverty, misery and death, those responsible for this are very reassured. They're not merengue, like the ones Barcina picked up.
