Like the majority of internationally renowned writers, good criticism and applause, Alice Munro has also witnessed a critic who has spoken out saying “what he has earned!” Christian Lorenzo dissected two or three months ago, in an article published in the magazine London Review of Books, the last Canadian book, Dear life, and took the bathrooms out of his entire work.
He denounced repetitive storytelling patterns, among many other things (“Rosa sees something, then lives something else and a few years later something else happens that unites both events and gives them meaning”); he left me feeling, because I had just read the collection of stories Zorion handiegia, edited by the editorial Meetto, enjoying the nice.
It cannot be denied that some of the things Lorenzo says are right. In addition to the narrative structure, one must take into account the criticism it makes to the characters: “They have often applauded him for telling stories from special angles, but what he normally does is tell it from the point of view of a shy and clumsy young man, but also responsible and perhaps early: a substitute for the author, normal and able to understand the misery of his pathetic characters better than they can ever do.”
What to do when you agree with criticism and like the book? Reread. And at a distance, despite having read eight eyes not to fall into the writer's traps, the book has passed the second exam with note. The tricks are in sight but… eppur if he muove.
