The torn miracle of Northern politics
The demonstration in favour of the Territorial Community (Baiona, 1 June) began with great concern: “People have not come as usual.” One asked another, but there was an air of optimism.
The day after the demonstration there was a question: What has been the reason why fewer people have come together than usual? According to the official data, instead of 6,000 people we met, if we were 10,000 common people, no such questions would be asked.
Impatience suggested several questions, answers and considerations:
– The call was made by more political actors than ever before, all sectors of society were involved. However, perhaps that is why the organization of demonstrations with the same objective that have been carried out so far has not been conceived as ever. Involvement of local associations has not been sufficient. The event has been presented as a mere task for the political players. I wondered if the picture looked too institutional.
– The struggle for the institution of the North has become the mirror of politics in the eyes of the South. In recent times, the Abertzales cite it as a miracle of politics, especially those of the Abertzale left. But do those on the Abertzale left – all – feel comfortable with the politicians who carry the French banderola in their chest?
– The demonstration in favour of Basque political prisoners is a cry that moves the citizens. Single theme. States are called upon to fulfil the rights of prisoners and prisoners and a policy of imprisonment is called for in accordance with the law. Likewise, the calls against the TAV or in favor of the Basque Country have another type of attraction. That is to say, on this occasion, the call or appeal have not caused too much emotion in public opinion. On the other hand, there is a large group of people from the South. This demonstration brought together the people of the area.
So, after the demonstration, the discomfort of the protest has spread, which has lasted for two hours. The PS Senator, Frédérique Espagnac, has been responsible for this discontent. This promoter of the Territorial College has, on his own, submitted an amendment to the Senate. He asked the Government about the structure of the “pole of organization and cooperation” for the North. The Minister of State Decentralization, Marylise Lebranchu, has expressed its agreement with Espagnac’s intention.
The proposal only lacks the approval of the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Valls, who announced his departure. Power is unlimited. The State has an infinite capacity to destroy the miracle of any policy. It is believed that a new political time has come to Euskal Herria. Or will it be new in the Basque Country?
